What is Jango Airplay?
Jango Airplay is a special promotion package on Jango.com that gives emerging artists guaranteed airplay and exposure on Jango.com radio stations – as “similar artists” alongside the popular artists of the user’s choice.
You simply choose what popular artists you think you’re similar to, and your song will play right after those artists – together with a visual promo that encourages users to rate and share your song, add you as a friend and visit your artist profile on Jango.
If you get 50 positive ratings, your song also starts playing for free in general rotation on Jango in stations with similar artists. If your song continues to get good ratings, it will be played more and more often and in more and more stations.
What is Jango.com?
Launched in November 2007 and based in New York City, Jango is a Top 10 music site where millions of people play and share their own custom radio stations tailored to their taste. To create their stations, Jango users type in a few artists they like - and we play a custom discovery mix of those artists and “similar artists” they’re probably going to like.
It's the easy way to play the music you want online, legally and free. As an internet radio service, Jango follows all restrictions of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and pays royalties due to artists every time a song is played.
To experience truly personalized internet radio that is simple, free, and social, tune in today at www.jango.com.
How It Works
How does Jango Airplay work?
Getting started with Jango Airplay is easy. You simply upload your song and pictures, and choose between 5 and 30 popular artists you think you sound like – and your song will play right after those artists in the personal stations of people who like those artists.
Your song will play a guaranteed 1,000, 2,000 or 5,000 times or more, depending on what package you purchase. You can upload as many songs as you like, and allocate your play credits however you choose.
When your song plays, your picture and song info will show up in the Jango player, in the exact same way any established artist would. Users can rate and share your song, click on your picture to go to your profile on Jango, and if you’ve uploaded more than one song, click to play other songs by you.
In addition, a special promo will show up, encouraging users to rate and share your song, add you as a friend and visit your artist profile on Jango.
How does ‘free extra plays in general rotation” work?
If your song gets 50 positive ratings, it will then make it into general rotation on Jango. This means your song will be treated just like that of any other artist and start getting free airplay along similar artists in relevant stations. Also, users can now start new stations by typing in your name, so that you get full exposure on Jango, in the same way any established artist would.
In fact, the play frequency of all songs in general rotation are based on popularity – so the more positive ratings a song gets, the more it gets played. If you have a fanbase you can activate to create stations, rate songs, etc, it will increase your artist's/song's popularity.
Next steps - how can I sign up?
Click “Get Started” and submit basic information about the artist and song. Then, choose an Airplay package, purchase your play credits, and upload your songs and pictures. After your payment, you will automatically gain instant access to your account. While your song is awaiting approval, you can already customize your profile and band information.
Your song file will go through an editorial review by the Jango Music Team to verify copyright, quality, and similarity to the artists you've requested airplay next to. This process takes up to 5 business days, but we'll send you an email as soon as your song goes live on Jango.
What will the reports look like?
Reports are updated daily and are conveniently accessible from within your Airplay account. You will see:
- Number of paid Airplay plays, and how many you have left
- Number of positive ratings you’ve received
- Number of positive ratings left to reach free extra plays in general rotation
- Number of visits to your Jango Profile
- Fan Overlap report: suggests additional artists you can choose as "similars"
- Demographic report: contains gender and age information about your new fans and listeners
In addition, by checking out your public profile on Jango.com, you’ll be able to see who liked your songs, and read your listeners’ comments!
Do you report to ASCAP or BMI?
We’re an internet radio service following all restrictions of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and pay royalties due to the organizations representing labels/artists for every song that is played. If you haven't already, we strongly advise you to register your music with one of these organizations.
Do I need to have the copyright to the songs I submit?
Yes, you must have the right to submit the material to us for our use. You should only submit to us songs and recordings that you are authorized to allow us to publicly stream (“perform”), because you own or control the public performing rights.
By providing any material to us, you certify: that you own or control the publishing rights to the material; that you are giving us permission to put it up on Jango.com for streaming, without restriction.

What's the difference between "paid" plays and general rotation plays?
"Paid" plays as mentioned in your statistics refer to spins you have purchased airplay for. These plays are pro-actively promoted and played on user stations on Jango. Non-paid (or general) plays are not pro-actively placed in user stations - instead they are either plays initiated by a fan going to your artist page and listening to your song, or your song making it into general rotation and receiving regular airplay from us without any prompt. General plays are free and will not reduce your number of play credits. Additional information on the general rotation can be found on this page.
